OUR HISTORY

How Thomas Instrumentation Inc. Started

1971

Company Start-up

Thomas Instrumentation, Inc. was established in 1971 by Thomas Gluyas. Tom studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan and gained experience through employment with them at Willow Run Labs and at their facility in Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii. After his employment with the University, Tom worked for a small company in Michigan designing, testing, installing, and trouble-shooting some of the first programmable controllers. It was after his experience there that he decided to open his own business in the same field.

1975

Relocated to New Jersey

In 1975, Tom moved his company to New Jersey where it has grown into the very successful, small business it is today. Some of the company’s past projects include:

  • Measurement system for car safety crash tests
  • Control & measurement system for testing a car’s laminated windshield break point
  • Controllers for loaders, dryers, blenders, and pumps in the plastics industry
  • Safety & timer systems for water slides and race tracks
  • Controllers for automated parking lot kiosks
  • Stress wave analyzer system for bearing & gears
  • Measurement system for inventorying pipe lengths
  • Automated watering robot for plant growers
  • Smart card system for copy & vending machines, and more.

2011

Second Generation

In 2011, Tom’s daughter, Cassandra Gluyas, began working with the company as both an engineer and the Chief Executive Officer. Cassandra received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a second major in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2008. Prior to her position at Thomas Instrumentation, Cassandra worked for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics at their Skunk Works facility in California. During her time there, she gained valuable experience in the following areas: engineering design, software development, project management, end user training, system and network administration, and quality management (ISO 9001 standards). Since Cassandra’s arrival, Thomas Instrumentation has been continuing its work with long-standing customers as well as actively searching for new business. In 2012, the company purchased two MyData MY100 pick-and-place machines to increase the quality and decrease the price of our production services. Some of our company’s most recent projects include:

  • Touch screen dryer, blender, and loader systems for the plastics industry
  • Touch screen cell culture system for the biopharmaceuticals industry
  • Smart tea kettle controller
  • Wireless beef & dairy cow estrus detection system
